Smokey is only 10–12 months old, yet he has already experienced more than any young dog should.

About two months ago, Smokey and his friend Snoopy wandered onto someone's property. They were fed for a while before being brought to our shelter. Snoopy has already found his forever home. Now it's Smokey's turn to find the person who will say, "Come on, let's go home."

Smokey is still a teenager - playful, curious, energetic and incredibly charming. He is a very close mix of the American Black and Tan Coonhound, a beautiful and noble breed from the United States.

You can't help but notice him: his striking black coat with rich tan markings, long velvety ears, athletic build, elegant long muzzle and intelligent, expressive eyes. Everything about him reflects his hunting-dog heritage.

Although Coonhounds were originally bred for hunting, with enough exercise, fun adventures and loving guidance, they become wonderful family companions - loyal, affectionate, intelligent and deeply devoted to their people.

Smokey is still a little shy around strangers. But give him a little time, patience and kindness and you'll watch him blossom. Every day he learns to trust people a little more.

Smokey wasn't meant to spend his youth in a kennel. He was meant to run in the wind with his long ears flapping happily, following thousands of fascinating scents with his incredible nose, reading them like the pages of a book. And at the end of the day, he dreams of greeting his family at the door, wagging his slender hound tail with pure joy.

Smokey is healthy, young and completely ready to become part of a loving family.
